3. One should follow in the footsteps of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and engage constantly in chanting the maha-mantra —Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Then he will never feel the distresses of the world of duality. In any condition of life one will be happy if he chants the holy name of the Lord. (Srimad-Bhagavatam, 6.17.30, Purport) |

5. So if a mantra has such power, why it should be secret? It should be distributed. People are suffering. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, “Chant this Hare Krsna mantra. Anyone who will hear . . . Even the birds and beasts will hear and they will be liberated.” (Conversation with John Lennon and George Harrison / London, September 11, 1969) |
6. And we have to follow the great personalities. Haridasa ˇThakura, he was chanting very loudly; Caitanya Mahaprabhu chanted very loudly. So what more evidence you want? My Guru Maharaja chanted loudly, we are chanting loudly. Whole business finished. (Lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 6.1.14 / Bombay, November 10, 1970) |
7. When the devotees chant the holy name of Krsna— Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare—Lord Krishna is immediately present. (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya 17.132) |
8. Chant every name, “Hare Krsna,” and hear. Here is Krsna here is Radharani. That kind of chanting, quality. Not “hare Krsna hare Krsna Krsna Krsna hare . . .” Not like that. Not like that. Priti. That priti is required. That is the essential quality. (Lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.10.2 / Mayapur, June 17, 1973) |

(Lecture on Bhagavad-gita 7.1 / Sydney, February 16, 1973) |
11. Just as when the darkness and the light come together, the darkness cannot stand before the light, so maya cannot remain in the presence of Krishna. 12. If one chants the holy name of God – Hare Krsna Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna Hare Hare / Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare – eventually he will see Krsna’s form, realise Krsna’s qualities, and remember Krsna’ spastimes. That is the effect of the pure chanting of Hare Krsna maha mantra. (Second Chance, Pg. 106 ) |
13. Srila Visvanatha Chakravarti Thakura comments that the chanting of the holy name of the Lord has special significance that distinguishes it from the Vedic ritualistic ceremonies of atonement for severe, more severe, or most severe sins. (Second Chance, Pg. 106) |
14. When Ajamila had named his son Narayana, all the reactions of his sinful life were neutralized, and as he continued calling his son and thus chanting the holy name of Narayana thousands of times, he was actually unconsciously advancing in Krsna Consciousness. (Second Chance, Pg. 98) |
15.Material education, wealth, and power will not help one to control the mind. A great devotee prays, “When will I be able to think of You constantly? My mind is always dragging me about, but as soon as I am able to fix my mind on the lotus feet of Krsna, it becomes clear”. (The Perfection of Yoga, Pg. 34) |
16. One absorbed in Krsna Consciousness, in chanting the names of Krsna and serving Him always, receives the benefit of the highest form of yoga. The advantage is that he doesn’t have to take all the trouble of meditational process. That is the beauty of Krsna Consciousness. (The Perfection of Yoga, Pg. 15) |
17.Those who are truly interested in the perfection of the yoga process should immediately take to Krsna Consciousness by chanting Hare Krsna, understanding Bhagavad Gita, and rendering service to Krsna through this society for Krsna Consciousness and thereby surpass all other systems and attain the ultimate goal of yoga – love of Krsna. (The Perfection of Yoga, Pg. 60) |
18. Lord Sri Krsna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who was Krsna Himself, appeared in 1486 in Bengal and gave us the process for attaining pure love of God in this age. Simply by constantly chanting and hearing the transcendental sound vibration Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare. Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare, one can achieve the desired goal of life. (Krsna, the Reservoir of Pleasure, Pg. 23) |

21. Rūpa Gosvāmī has stated that five kinds of devotional activities – namely, residing in Mathurā, worshiping the Deity of the Lord, reciting Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, serving a devotee and chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra – are so potent that a small attachment to any one of these five items can arouse devotional ecstasy even in a neophyte. (Nectar of Devotion, Chapter 13) |
22.By offenseless chanting and hearing of the holy name of the Lord, one becomes acquainted with the transcendental form of the Lord, and then with the attributes of the Lord, and then with the transcendental nature of His pastimes, etc. (Purport, SB 2.1.11) |
23.Here it is mentioned that one should constantly chant the holy name of the Lord after hearing it from authorities. This means that hearing from the authorities is the first essential. Hearing of the holy name gradually promotes one to the stage of hearing about His form, His attributes, His pastimes, and so on, and thus the necessity of the chanting of His glories develops successively. This process is recommended not only for the successful execution of devotional service, but also even for those who are materially attached. (Purport, SB 2.1.11) |
24. Śrīla Jīva Gosvāmī instructs that chanting of the holy name of the Lord should be loudly done, and it should be performed offenselessly as well, as recommended in the Padma Purāṇa. One can deliver himself from the effects of all sins by surrendering himself unto the Lord. (Purport, SB 2.1.11) |
25. And if one has actually heard about Krsna, one’s next engagement in bhakti-yoga will be to chant (gayanti). The preachers of the Krsna consciousness movement go from town to town, village to village. Why? What is their purpose? To preach, to chant, so that people may get the opportunity to hear this philosophy and take it seriously (grnanti). (Teachings of Queen Kunti, Chapter 19) |
26.The word abhiksnasah indicates that these engagements should go on continuously, twenty-four hours a day without stopping. Caitanya Mahaprabhu therefore recommends, kirtaniyah sada harih: one should engage in chanting twenty-four hours a day. That is the business of Krsna conscious devotees. (Teachings of Queen Kunti, Chapter 19) |
27.In Satya-yuga people knew how to fulfill the necessities of life simply by worshiping Nārāyaṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The same purpose can be served in this Age of Kali by the chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, as recommended in the Bhāgavatam. (Purport, SB 9.14.48) |
28. Kīrtanād eva kṛṣṇasya mukta-saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet. Simply by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, one becomes free from the bondage of material existence and thus becomes eligible to return home, back to Godhead. (Purport, SB 9.14.48) |
29.In Satya-yuga the only mantra was oṁkāra (oṁ tat sat). The same name oṁkāra is manifest in the mantra Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. Unless one is a brāhmaṇa, one cannot utter oṁkāra and get the desired result. But in Kali-yuga almost everyone is a śūdra, unfit for pronouncing the praṇava, oṁkāra. Therefore the śāstras have recommended the chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. (Purport, SB 9.14.48) |
30. While chanting the holy name of the Lord, one should be careful to avoid ten offenses. From Sanat-kumāra it is understood that even if a person is a severe offender in many ways, he is freed from offensive life if he takes shelter of the Lord’s holy name. (Purport, SB 7.5.23-24) |
31. It is therefore recommended that an offender at the feet of the holy name continue to chant the holy name twenty-four hours a day. Constant chanting of the holy name will make one free of offenses, and then he will gradually be elevated to the transcendental platform on which he can chant the pure holy name and thus become a lover of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. (Purport, SB 7.5.23-24) |
32. ‘In this Age of Kali, those who are intelligent perform the congregational chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, worshiping the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who appears in this age always describing the glories of Kṛṣṇa. That incarnation is yellowish in hue and is always associated with His plenary expansions [such as Śrī Nityānanda Prabhu] and personal expansions [such as Gadādhara], as well as His devotees and associates [such as Svarūpa Dāmodara]. (Translation, CC, Madhya 6.103) |
33. Then the Bhaṭṭācārya asked Caitanya Mahāprabhu, “Which item is most important in the execution of devotional service?” The Lord replied that the most important item was the chanting of the holy name of the Lord. (Translation, CC, Madhya 6.241) |
